Sissala East District Health Administration Research Guesthouse in Tumu

Bolgatanga road, after Kanton Secondary and ASUDEV office building

The Research Guesthouse was constructed to benefit the health of the people in the Sissala districts. The purpose is to provide temporary accommodation for people engaged in improving healthcare in the district. Health workers, professional researchers and students in health visiting the district are welcome to use the facilities. The rate it 10 GHC for a selfcontained room for researchers, 15 GHC for other guests.

In 2009, the ownership of the Research Guesthouse was transferredfrom IMCC to the DHA of Sissala East District, who agreed to manage, oversee and maintain the guesthouse. DHMT requested and got the permission from the SRC (who in the terms of handing-over had been assigned a "watchdog role" to ensure that the guesthouse is being used for research-related purposes) to run the guesthouse on a commercial basis on the condition that at least one room be set aside for researchers coming to the district.

Since then, the DHMT has worked together with the IMCC and SRC to put in place structures around the Research Guesthouse to ensure sustainability even after the IMCC leave the district in the foreseeable future. These structures include a caretaker, employed by the DHA, to cook, clean and manage the guesthouse on a day-to-day basis.

On 22 June 2010, the Sissala East DHA Research Guesthouse was officially opened with a small ceremony, where heads of departments enjoyed food and drinks served by the caretaker.
